auto update said new drivers for gpu now gpu dead!! [Anwsered]

auto update said new drivers for gpu now gpu dead!!

the problem is this windows 7 said to me my graphics card driver needs updating.
now i only did this the other day but assumed they may have hot off the line updates because there trying to be helpfull and easy to use.  so i thought ok ill install it.
did
the windows system test and it did a "blue screen of death" on me.
so i thought ok ill re boot trys to boot windows just after windows logo "blue screen off death dumping memory to disk".
so i thought ok i will boot to safe mode and unistall drivers and back
to  my normal boot mode and  windows recognised my graphics card and installed bog standered drivers and then rebooted then installed my old drivers that used to work befor this.
worked did the stress test "blue screen of death" had to reboot again "blue screen
of death".
back to safe mode did system role back restarted this time i got a new "blue screen of death" something bout parity check rong or sumthing then when i rebooted windows 7 gave me a repair option were i would normaly click to go safe mode.
so i did
this and this seemed to do the trick but then windows only recognised my graphics card as a standered vga adapter when befor it saw it was nvidia so i uninsatlled the drivers installed the first one i had and did the stress test to get aero visualisations
back in windows 7 this managed to get passed the direct x test were before it "blue screen of deathed on" but fail in the last 2 seconds of the progess bar of the disk test and the "blue screen of death" happend again.
by this point i was realy anoyed and
just left it.
few hours later i have come back turned on the computer and every thing seems to be ok.

i think as this has taken so much of my night i deserve an answer why did this happen and should i be scared of windows updates from now on ?

iv never had a blue screen of death befoe on this laptop.
its had windows vista  and xp and fedora core and ubuntu.

if u think iv wasted your time thats how i felt after i tryed to fix this laptop from a problem that your update has done to me.

my laptop specs with this problem are:
manufactor: compal
model: IFL90
cpu: intel mobile core 2 duo t7500 @ 2.20ghz
ram: ddr2 2048 mb
graphics: nvidia geforce 8600M GT 256mb

i no its not amazing but its good enough for windows 7

driver that used to work a dream: 186.81_notebook_win7_winvista_32bit_international_whql.exe

driver that broke it : 186.03_notebook
_win7_32bit_international_whql.exe

Update: i thought my laptop was fixed intill this mornign i turned it on to use it started to watch a program on bbc iplayer was half way thro the video then my screen split into 8 diffrent screens got a "blue screen of death" X 8 .
so i restarted and now even
in my bios i have 8 screens.

windows 7 supplied update thro windows update has broken my laptop and im pritty peeved

Update 2: i fixed the six full screens and 2 half screens by booting into safe mode then removing the graphics drivers again.
i neva relised that drivers affected they way the boot screen looked like bios and things. windows is still not recognising my graphics
card as anything more then vga adapter befor it would recognise it as its brand type and model name.

i would like to no if there is an offical complaints procedure and if there is any chance microsoft would take ownership of this issue and help me solve as there update broken it.
i am a student in software engineering and this has seriosuly hindered my learning
as my laptop is now broken.
plz will some one help me!!!

Download Error Fixer (Free)

Because laptops are so proprietory (custom builds by hardware manufacturers specifically for a brand name), it is always best to use the 'custom' drivers supplied by the laptop manufacturer.

Re drivers included in Windows Update..
the drivers are probably ok as standalone updates, but when updated with other things, they are known to screw up and have been doing it ever since drivers appeared in WU.

If you do a factory reset, all problems should go away, so not not sure what kind of re-install you did that the problems would still be apparent.
A full factory reset with problems coming back would suggest a hardware problem maybe.
Have you contavcted the
manufacturer?
